John Bernard O'Neil SUMMERVILLE - John Bernard O'Neil, 88, husband of Mary Darling O'Neil, of Summerville, SC, died Friday, January 13, 2012.

The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church in Summerville at 11 o'clock in the morning. The visitation will be held at Parks Funeral Home Monday, January 16, 2012 from 6-8 o'clock in the evening with the Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 o'clock. The Rite of Committal will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church Building Fund, 11001 Dorchester Rd., Summerville, SC 29485.

John O'Neil was born February 4, 1923 in Boston, MA, a son of Felix P. O'Neil and Elizabeth McCarthy O'Neil.

He is a graduate of Boston College where he earned a B.S. and Masters of Science in Chemistry. He served during World War II with the Army Air Corp in the China Burma Theatre. He was a chemical engineer and retired from ExxonMobil after a thirty-five year career. He was a member of St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church. John O'Neil earned his first ham radio license in the 1930s and was actively involved in ham radio operation all his life. He was an active member of the Boston College Eagle Alumni association for over fifty years. He was an avid golfer and family man.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Darling O'Neil of Summerville; one son, David O' Neil of Houston, TX; one daughter, Linda Chidester of Conroe, TX; two grandchildren, Robert Chidester and Patrick Chidester.
