Norman Walker Mangum, 78, died on Friday, January 6, 2006 at his residence in Lexington.

Graveside service was held on Monday, January 9, at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Barton, Arkansas with Rev. Ricky Reese officiating.

Mr. Mangum was born on July 1, 1927 in Itta Bena, the son of Joe N. Mangum and Birgie White Mangum. He was a contractor with Helena Electric. Mr. Mangum served with the Navy in World War II, and was a member of the Naval Reserve. He was an amateur radio operator. He was a member of Acona Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Smith Mangum, son, John Douglas Mangum, and sister, Catherine Sullivan.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Britt Mangum of Lexington; three sons, Walker Mangum, Jr., and wife Nancy of Houston, Texas, Steven Mangum and wife Liz of Hong Kong, and Carl Britt and wife Brenda of Tchula; a daughter, Suzanne Dawson, and husband Van of Lexa, Arkansas; a daughter-in-law, Tricia Mangum of Walls; two sisters, Frances Armstrong of Jackson, and Jewell Peoples of Itta Bena; fourteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Van Dawson, Jr., Brent Mangum, Will Dawson, Nick Mangum, Taylor Mangum, and Carl Britt.

Honorary pallbearers were Trip Mangum, Justin Mangum, Bo Britt, and Willie Hughes.
