First Call: KN7ERQ in 1960       Other Call(s): WA6GHU

Our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Roger Leo Palmer, graduated from this life to the next on August 27, 2021, after a valiant fight with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. He never asked why me or uttered a complaint.

Roger was born on April 11, 1943, to Russell Leo Palmer and Barbara Louise Peterson in Castle Dale, Utah. He loved to share the story of his birth, which occurred on the kitchen table of the family home.

He enjoyed an adventurous life in the small country town of Castle Dale, with siblings, Jim, Kathie and Judy. At the age of 10, they moved to Salt Lake City.

Fascinated by the workings of electronics, Roger received his first amateur radio license at the age of twelve. He talked with people around the world and to this day enjoys friendships made through this lifelong hobby.

Roger was very gifted musically. He had a beautiful voice and played many instruments. Roger and his friend, Orion Marler, started the Sandy Hill Singers, a group similar to the Kingston Trio. They had success in small venues and in 1969 they made their first record.

Roger began his career in the steel industry at age 19 as a welder helper, at Steel Contractors, where he gained a lifetime of knowledge. He was continuously promoted working for several large steel companies before starting his own company, Palmer Metalmart of Lehi, Utah in 1993.

Roger and Jan were married in Nampa, Idaho and later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they share 9 children.

Roger enjoyed telling stories of his childhood to his grandchildren, playing the guitar and singing Aby-yoyo! He had a quick wit and sense of humor. He loved to tease and laugh. His smile was brilliant and could melt the coldest heart. He loved the United States of America and was a strong voice for conservative values. He possessed a great teaching ability through stories and parables; thus, he was a mentor to many.

Roger was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held numerous callings but often said his favorite was serving in the Quail Ridge Branch at Legacy Village of Provo.

Roger is survived by his wife Jan and nine children, Sherri Wilcox (Randy,) Kelly Palmer (Tammy), Tina Petersen (Shane,) Brooke Tarvin (Kerry), Troy Palmer (Lynn), Laura Bostock (Mike), Kari Roylance, Sarah Fillmore (Brad), Ashleigh Hansen (Dane); five brothers Jim Palmer, Jeff Palmer, Mike Schneider, Steven MacLee, and Stewart MacLee; two sisters Kathie Wilson and Judy Martinez. Forty-four grandchildren and forty greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two grandsons.
