Born December 23, 1918 in Los Angeles. He lived a remarkably full and productive life and passed on to the spiritual kingdom to join his beloved Betty on March 18, 2013. He was 94 years old. Everett and Betty were married July 4, 1943.
His degree in Radio Engineering made him a valuable resource to the Army Corp of Engineers. He was sent to Hawaii and many remote islands in the Pacific theatre to build radar stations. Betty joined him in Hawaii and they lived for three years at Hickam Air Force Base at Pearl Harbor. After the War they returned to Los Angeles where Everett was handed the reins to his father's machine shop Associated Gear and Machine. He and his two younger brothers successfully ran the business for 40 years.
He and Betty raised two sons, David and Gary, who both graduated from San Pedro High School and then L.A. Harbor College. Both sons served in the U.S. Coast Guard and then went on to careers in the Fire Department. Dave has retired from L.A. County Fire and Gary has retired from Hawaii County Fire.
Everett was an Eagle Scout and Sea Explorer Scout as a young man. He and Betty raised their sons to become Eagle Scouts also. The couple touched many young lives as they organized more than a decade's worth of scouting activities like hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, surfing, lifesaving and scuba diving. Everett and Betty made many sacrifices of their time and resources to enrich the lives of their sons as well as dozens of other young people.
Everett and Betty were loved and respected by friends, neighbors and relatives. In their retirement years they were active in many service organizations. Everett was a life member of San Pedro B.P.O.E. 966 and a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge #332. Betty was active with San Pedro Harbor Chapter O.E.S. #174. The couple dedicated their entire lives to service. Everett passed on peacefully at home in the company of close family.
