KEN BOURKE was orignially licensed as WN9ZVG, and the QTH was FRANKLIN PARK, ILL, Cook County. The year I passed the NOVICE EXAM in CHICAGO was 1952. In those days FCC would mail you your license in three to six months after you took the test. I forgot about it and finally the license suprisingly came. I fired up a 6AG7 xtal controlled oscillator with about five watts and worked Ill. IND. WIS. MO. Had a HEATHKIT AR-2 receiver. That was when I was 13. I immediately got my General, then Extra, and ran a KW using a pair of 813's and 811's to modulate, and QUAD on a 60 foot tower. That was in 1958, in ONTARIOVILLE, ILLINOIS, the FOX RIVER VALLEY AREA, and I graduated from ELGIN HIGH SCHOOL in 1958. I ran the school FM Station on 88.1 Mhz and worked at a TV repair shop while going to ELGIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE and then went to UNIV OF ILL where I got a BSEE in 1964 and worked the U of I SYNTON Club Station

I got a Naval Air Engineering Service Unit Navy job in 1964 and was transferred to SAN DIEGO in Dec. 1964 and have been on the air since 1964 in SAN DIEGO. Eventually I changed my call sign to N6UN. Current rig is a ICOM MARK IIG, which I used on 432.120 MHZ with 21 ele yagi for the West Coast Weak Signal Society net, and on 144.240 using 14 ele yagi for the WSWSS two meter SSB net, and wo rk 50.125 for rag chewing on six meters. On HF 10-15-20 I use a tribander on a tower, and on 160 a long L wire. On 40 and 30 and other WARC bands, a vertical. I have been the Sec of North Shores Amateur Radio Club for about six years and am active in the 28.495 Ten meter club net. I have Life Membership in ARRL and SANDRA, a local repeater association. Occassionally attend ARES and RACES and am an ARRL Volunteer Contributing Engineer and State Licensed Registered Prof Engineer, Electrical, and have an MSEE from San Diego State Univ. E-7103. Ten Meter Beacon on 28.290 MHZ uses Radio Shack HTX-100 and 5/8 wave vertical antenna. Pse QSL sig reports to N6UN@arrl.net or kenbourke@aol.com or call 858 453-9016 or cell 619 339-8744. Beacon Web Site is www.N6UN.COM Although I am a registered Professional Engineer, I am also a real estate broker with a down town SD office and give 50% discount to all hams when your selling and 50% rebate on commission paid to broker when your buying.

I am putting the HENRY 2K on the air. The Henry 2K is a very heavy Duty 1500 Watt Linear Amp for 80 - 10 Meters The power supply can be wired for either 240 or 120 AC. I have only 120 in the shack so had to rewire for 120 AC. My plan is to put it on 160 and try to work a BV in China. Running low power QRP doesn't work for conistent long haul DX. Nobody can pull my sig out of noise.. Just received SWL QSL cards from Japan, Netherlands, and VK in Brisbane from 5W Beacon on 28.290 Mhz.
