Gyrocompass Electrical Technician Master Chief (ret) Beloved husband, father and friend, Bernard Gene "Bernie" Miller, 75, was called to the Lord on Aug. 17, 2012, surrounded by his family at Saint Vincent Hospital.

Bernard was born on May 29, 1937, in Billings, a son of Wallace and Doris (Barney) Miller. He graduated from Billings Senior High where he met and married the love of his life, Madelyne Carol "Maggie" Nelson in Waukegan, Ill., on June 14, 1958. Bernie enlisted in the Navy and was a career man of 22 years.

After his retirement from the Navy he moved to Worden in 1981 where he was a meat cutter for 16 years at the Project Mercantile. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a member of the Billings Rod and Gun Club, Yellowstone Radio Club (N7YY), and he was an artist who loved to paint in watercolors and acrylics.

Bernard is survived by his loving wife Madelyne; three daughters Amy Diane Miller-Mack of Oceanside, Calif., Vicki Lynn Miller of Billings, and Dr. Carol Gene Enderle (Quentin) of Kailua, Hawaii; his grandchildren Daniel, Bryan and Christine Mack; a sister, Karon Moriarty (Dennis) of Kearns, Utah; a brother, Allen "Lee" Miller (Clairenda) from Bellflower, Calif.; five nephews; and two great-grandchildren.

Bernie is preceded in death by his parents.

Viewing will begin at Smith Downtown Chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 9 a.m. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Smith Downtown Chapel with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Saint Bernard's Catholic Church. Graveside service with military honors will follow at 1 p.m. at Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery, 55 Buffalo Trail Road, Laurel.

Memorials may be sent to the Billings Rod and Gun Club and/or the Yellowstone Radio Club. The family appreciates the kindness and care that Dr. Benjamin Marchello has shown and given our father and husband throughout his illness.
