I was first licensed in 1965 (at age 15) as WN8SLF. I became WA8WBX in 1967 and KC8PH in 1981. I obtained my Extra class ticket in 1987 (NV8T), and have had the N8GL call since 1996.
I am a casual operator; not into contesting, but I do enjoy the occasional DX contact. 40 meters is probably my favorite band, but I work 10 - 75, and have 2 meter and 70cm FM and DSTAR capability. I work DSTAR through a DVAP with a Raspberry Pi, and usually monitor Reflectors 30C or 24C. I also work PSK31 and other digital modes including FreeDV on HF.
I am retired from Kettering University in Flint, Michigan, where I worked for 25 years. I worked in the IT department as an electronics technician; specializing in classroom AV technology. I also managed and maintained two UHF business radio repeaters and about 60 HT's.
Although no longer active, I have a strong interest in aviation. I hold a Commercial pilot certificate with instrument rating, and have owned a couple of Cessna 150's and a Buckeye Powered Parachute ultralight.
