I have been licensed since 1970 as WN2NYR as a novice and then as WA2NYR as an Extra Class ham. I requested my vanity callsign NI5F in early 2002 to shorten my callsign for contesting and generate less confusion of a two-land call in Mississippi.
I was also licensed as DA2EJ during parts of 1979 through 1982 from Aschaffenburg, Germany. I operated portable from the United Kingdom as G5EHP during the same time period.
I enjoy operating on 80- through 6-meters. I enjoy designing antennas and building equipment. I have two Elecraft K2/100 radios for HF. I have a roof-mounted Butternut vertical with 3 radials each about 45 feet long.
I have an ICOM 7000 installed in my Ford Explorer with a fairly efficient vertical on the trailer hitch extension. Working mobile is considerably more difficult than operating from a fixed station with decent antenna.
I have other equipment on the air. Heathkit HW-101, Swan-350, Drake Twins, Drake TR-4, and many shortwave receivers.
I hope to catch you on the air.
