James Allerton Hamlin NZ2U died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 28, 2002 surrounded by his family after a long illness.

He was born December 5, 1925 in Binghamton, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Felina Difolca Hamlin; his children, Christine Kitchin and her husband Bill, Linda Hamlin Barno and her husband Jim, James Hamlin and his wife Kathy; grandchildren, Brian Middendorf and fiance Michelle Bates, Michael Middendorf and fiance Rayla Green, Lori Middendorf and Bob Brull; stepgrandchildren, Kurt and Kristie Barnes; sister, Jane Downey and husband Maurice; special nephew, Joseph Difolca; and cousin, Tom Jeffrey. He was a graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy and owned and operated the Apalachin Pharmacy from 1959 to 1982 with his wife and parents, Bill and Mildred Hamlin. He was a veteran of the US Navy Armed Guard, serving in WWII as a Chief Radio Operator. He was a member of the Navy Amateur Radio Club and of the Sampson WWII Navy Veterans Organization, a member of the VFW and the Vestal Elks. He also served on the Board of Education for Owego Apalachin Central School District and was Chairman of the Selective Service Draft Board. In 1993, he was awarded a Commemorative Medal by the Russian Government for his personal contribution to the Allied Support of Russia during WWII. The family is grateful for the many dear friends who have given love and support during Jim's illness, especially for the devotion of Ed Bernhauer and Bob (RT) Lalor. Jim recently donated his amateur radio equipment to the Radio Club of Junior High in New York City. A program to keep at risk youth interested in staying in school.

The family will receive friends at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Rt. 434, Apalachin, Tuesday, July 30 from 4 to 7 p.m.

A private service and interment at Vestal Hills Memorial Park will be held at the convenience of the family.
