Donald was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Graduated from Mt. Allison University in 1941.

He then joined the Navy and served as a gunnery Lieutenant protecting Atlantic merchant ships from U-boat attacks.

After the war, Donald settled in British Columbia with his new bride Mavis.

He was a High School Physics teacher and District Superintendent, retiring in 1978.

Survived by his wife Mavis Aileen Jackson, three sons and seven grandchildren.
