Obituary

Salina- Alvin W. Wiechman, 82, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020. He was born April 30, 1938 in Barnes, Kan., to Lawerence and Paula (Dierking) Wiechman. Alvin married his high school sweetheart, Lois Finlayson, on September 15, 1957 in Barnes.

Alvin started married life working at Finlayson Sand and Gravel for his father-in-law. He continued working in construction work for many years building bridges and highways with several companies; Reece Construction , Frank Construction and Brown and Brown Constuction Company. Alvin and Lois moved their young family many times in their early years. After moving to Salina in 1969; he continued to travel with the construction crews, coming home on weekends. He left construction work to have more time with his family. He worked a variety of jobs to support his family including as a cab driver, in multiple positions at the Coca-Cola plant and Tony's Pizza. He started Lois' Snacks. For 30 years he and Lois traveled to many birthday parties and small festivals with their concession stand, merry-go-round and bounce houses. Alvin made countless people smile by his magic tricks and balloon animals, both as "Alvie the Clown" or "Coyote Joe" on Tuesday nights at Coyote Canyon in Salina for 17 yrs. He was a member of the Lutheran Men's Missionary League, Salina Chamber of Commerce and Lion's Club, and the Central Kansas Amateur Radio Club teaching classes in Morse Code to many. Alvin was a giving person, always showing concern and willingness to help others with their projects.

He is survived by: sons, Calvin Wiechman (Phyllis) and Danny Wiechman (Anita); daughters, Kathy Dipman (Jeff) and Ruth Sears (Ken); brothers, Richard (Lavonne) and Don (Marcie); sister, Arlene Vorce; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his wife of almost 63 years, Lois; parents; and brother-in-law, Don Vorce.

A private family funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina. Services may be viewed online at www.livewebcastevents.com/alvin Burial will follow at 2:00 pm in St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Barnes. Visitation will be at the Ryan Mortuary on Friday, Dec. 18, from 4 until 8 pm that evening. Memorials may be made to Sunflower Adult Day Services or the St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th, Salina.
