Victor D. Politi, age 93, a lifelong Fairfield resident and the beloved husband of Meta W. Politi, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. He was born in Bridgeport to the late Peter and Mary Politi.

He was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School. Following high school, Victor enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served as a radio operator with the 286th Joint Assault Signal Company during World War II and landed on Utah Beach on D-day. He also toured in North Africa, Italy and Algeria.

Upon returning home, he began a career as a Telephone Engineer with SNET and retired after thirty-four years.

He was a Ham Radio Operator since the age of fifteen. His call name was W1NU. Victor was a member of the American Amateur Radio Relay League (AARRL) for over fifty years. He also volunteered at the New England Air Museum and was a skydiving enthusiast. Victor had a great sense of humor and always loved to give a high five!

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three loving children, Peggie Sudak and her husband, Paul of Bethany, Amy Wallace and her husband, Thomas of Seymour, Douglas Politi and his wife, Maureen of Easton; his nine grandchildren, Michael, David and Tanya Sudak, Sean and Meghan Qualey, Meta Wallace and Caroline, Peter and Matthew Politi; and his great granddaughter, Morgan. He will also be missed by his two sisters, Clotilde Curti of Ohio and Lorraine Lynch of Shelton and many nieces and nephews.

Victor was predeceased by his two sons, Patrick and Bruce; his brothers, Raymond, James and Daniel and his sister, Florence Schaefer.

Friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 2-4 p.m.
