WRIGHT, Richard Edward "Dick" 85, loving father, husband and grampy and a longtime Acton resident passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 7, 2021. He was the son of the late George and Dorothy Wright. Richard "Dick" was married to Katherine "Binki" (Knowles) Wright for over 41 years, they lived in Acton before moving to Plymouth in late 2020. Dick graduated from Chelmsford High in 1953. He then went on to WPI and graduated in 1957 where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and then continued to Northeastern for his graduate degree. Dick worked at Raytheon as an Electrical Engineer for 35 years, where some of his early highlights included working on the Polaris and Trident Missiles prior to an early retirement at 59. He was an avid HAM Radio operator, federally assigned call letters W1UBC known worldwide later shortened to W1UC. In 1956 while a student at WPI, Dick pioneered the first Trans Ocean Message 3,800 miles to Denmark. Dick and Binki were very involved in the Church of the Good Shepherd and were leaders and icons in Cursillo. He was one of the original ambassadors that traveled to El Salvador representing The Church of the Good Shepherd, Acton, MA to bring resources to the villages to enhance the quality of their lives. Dick was a member of the Civil Defense in Acton, MA and a Member of William North Lodge A.F. & A.M. Lowell, MA. In 2006 Dick was named "Man of the Year" in Chelmsford, MA as a result of his overall life achievements. Dick summered on Lake Sebago in Naples, ME for 50 years sailing or more often reading the paper in his lounge chair on the screen porch overlooking the lake. After his early retirement he and his wife traveled extensively! Finally deciding that Sint Maarten was their favorite spot and continued to vacation there for 15 years.

Dick leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Katherine "Binki" as well as his three daughters, Judy Croft, Karon Wierman and Brenda Scully along with six grandchildren, Jessica, Danielle and Zachary Croft and Sarah Mann and Benjamin and Nicholas Wierman and one great-granddaughter, Saoirse Mann. Dick was predeceased by his first wife Barbara Jean Wright in 1979 as well as his sister, Beverly Gigliotti in 2019. Dick was an amazing soul and very much loved and respected by so many. He was one of a kind and a true gentleman. His passing leaves an emptiness like no other.

The family will be holding a Memorial Service at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Acton, MA on October 15, 2021, at 1PM.
