Mark S. Bond, 65, of Washington, NJ passed away on December 6, 2020 at home with his loving family by his side.

Mark was born on March 17, 1955 in Newton, NJ to the late Ralph and Maria Bond.

Mark graduated from Newton High School, Class of 1973. He furthered his education in Criminal Justice at Seton Hall University in 1981. He graduated from the NJ State Police Academy in Sea Girt, NJ in 1981. Mark's career in law enforcement began in 1975 when he worked as a dispatcher for Sparta, NJ. He was employed as a police officer for Hopatcong, NJ from 1980-2001. During his career in Hopatcong, he was promoted to Detective Sergeant. Mark was also the coordinator of the DARE program. In addition, he was FBI trained as a crisis negotiator. After retiring from the police department, he was employed as a Warren Hills High School Resource Officer. In 2012 he was recognized for saving the life of a visiting spectator.

Mark, his wife Denise, and their children moved to Washington in 1991. He served on the Washington Borough School Board from 1994-1997. Mark was a Councilman in Washington Borough from 1997-2001. In 2001, he was elected as the Washington Borough Mayor. He was also on the Library Board of Trustees, the Planning Board, and the Washington Downtown Revitalization Committee.

Mark was a member of the Civil Defense Council in Washington, the Warren County Office of Emergency Management and the American Radio Relay League. He was involved with the Washington Celebrates America Orange Crate Derby. He enjoyed announcing the race and could always be counted on to keep the crowd entertained. Mark was a member of the Delaware-Lehigh Amateur Radio Club and had his Amateur Radio License (call sign W2MB). His memberships also included the Future Farmers of America Alumni, being a Mason at the Harmony Lodge # 8 F & A.M, lifetime member of the Policeman's Benevolent Association, member of the Washington Historical Society, and a Trustee for the Port Colden United Methodist Church.

Mark had many gifts. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone. His leadership skills were evident and his sense of community service will always be remembered. Mark loved to travel with his wife. He had a great compassion for animals and loved his dogs. More important than all of his accomplishments was his family. He treasured every moment spent with them.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Denise Bond, his loving children, daughter Krista Schroeder and her husband Marc, son Sean Bond and his companion Yooeun Kim, his sister Jane Elliott and her husband Curt, niece Emily Elliott, father-in-law Carl Rose, mother-in-law June Zichella and father-in-law Louie Zichella, brother-in-law Michael Zichella, niece Brittany Rose Vera, many friends whom he considered family, and adopted greyhounds Minnie and Phantom.

Due to Covid-19, a memorial service celebrating Mark's life will be held at a later date in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Mark's name to an animal welfare charity of one's choice.
