Marvin Bernstein ~ W8DLU ~ W2PAT ~ AFA4DA

This wonderful man is my father.
He will be 102 Yrs old June 6, 2017 and is really remarkable. A licensed Ham Radio operator since 1932 and a MARS (Military Auxiliary Radio System) member since 1951.

My father is still an active member and runs the nets every Friday am & pm.

His mind is amazing and he remembers everything from the last 100 years.

At 90 dad had colon cancer and a heart attack before that he'd been healthy and on no prescription drugs. After his recovery he decided he needed to get healthy and so started doing leg lifts every morning, he's up to 300. His diet also changed and he will tell you one of his favorite staples is Smuckers Natural Creamy Peanut!

My dad's genius is beyond me, below is just a snippet of his work with the United States Government at Fort Monmouth, NJ.

He was ordered to report to Fort Monmouth, NJ just 2 days after Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941.

If you were a licensed Ham Radio operator at that moment you were vital to our government for communications.

Daddy told me at the time our military still used horses. Yes in 1941 we still had the Calvary. He told me fortunate for him when they were sending the licensed Hams to different sections of our military he wasn't picked for the Calvary since the office of chief Calvary was discontinued 1942. In 1943 the First Calvary Division turned in its horses and fought the war as an infantry unit.

Dad was part of communications during World War II & protect our shores on his weekends in the Coast Guard Auxilry. He ended up in the laboratories at Fort Monmouth researching Crystals.

There are articles & papers dad wrote through out his 30 years at Fort Monmouth on the internet. Once classified but now released to the public.

I remember as a little girl in the 1960's daddy taking trips to Paris, Brussels & other places across the Atlantic to speak at NATO about his research.

He has 3 patents in his name, 2 with the United States Government. One of his patents was the first crystal to launch in Explorer 1 on January 31, 1958. Before daddy's patented Crystal the crystals kept shattering during launch.

Dad's private sector patent was for the Hecon Corporation. The patent was filed in 1982 a (Programmed Electronic Keycorder Unit). Yes, because of Dad schools & businesses can keep up with number of copies that are made from their copiers.
