W3JMT - George L. Feehrer

George Livingston Feehrer, age 95, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2011, at Courtyard Gardens Nursing & Rehab in Middletown. He was born in Williamsport on October 9, 1915, the oldest child of the late George Albert and Jennie Myra (Livingston) Feehrer.

He was the beloved husband of Mary Jane (Free) Feehrer, who passed away February 27, 2004, after almost 63 years of marriage.

George had been an Amateur Radio Operator (W3JMT) from age 17, making many friends throughout the US and Europe, some who still keep in touch through phone calls and e-mails. He loved Penn State football and the Phillies; and enjoyed gardening, reading historical books, and fly fishing in Pine Creek. George served with the US Army Signal Corps during WWII in England and Belgium, having been inducted three weeks after his daughter's birth.

George graduated from Williamsport High School in 1933, and eventually became a Railway Mail Clerk with the Federal Government working runs in the Central East Coast area for many years, finally working in the Harrisburg Transfer Office. He retired in 1972.

George and Mary Jane were active members of the following churches: Calvary United Methodist Church in Williamsport until moving to Harrisburg in 1955. They became members of Trinity United Methodist Church until its closing, after which they were members of Paxton United Methodist Church, Harrisburg. Their great joys in life included helping friends, neighbors and relatives and spending memorable special occasions with family.

Survivors include daughter, Carol Ann and husband Stanley Bingaman, Harrisburg; son, Jeffrey A., Middletown; brother, Max R. and wife Thelma, Orlando, FL; five grandchildren, Karen, and husband Cary Clouser and great granddaughter, Devon Shatto, Lemoyne; Mark Bingaman, Shiresmanstown; Troy R. and wife Kim Feehrer and great grandson Zachary, Hershey; Kirk and wife Laura Bingaman of Macedon, NY; and Dale and wife Amber Feehrer and great granddaughter Hannah, Middletown. He was predeceased by his sister, Jane Myra Rich.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful nursing staff at Courtyard Gardens, past and present, for their loving care and attention to George over the past 21 months.
