William A. Zehner, age 94, of Shipley Heights died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital, Newark.

Mr. Zehner was a retired chemist and science instructor at Williamson Trade School in Media, PA. retiring in 1981 after 12 years. Previously he worked at ITT, Trojan Powder, General Tire, DuPont and Thiokol-Elkton. He received his BS in chemistry from City College of New York and Med degrees in secondary science and in counseling at Delaware University.

William was a licensed amateur radio operator since 1939 with calls of W2KAF and W8ZMV and currently, W3TRC. He also operated Army MARS with the call-sign AAR3DY. In addition, he had been treasurer of McDaniel Crest Civic Association and manager and coach in little league baseball and football. He was also active in Boy Scouts, square dancing, bowling and golfing at the DuPont Country Club.

William volunteered for American Red Cross for help in disasters and pet therapy with the Red Cross, delivered Meals-on-Wheels and prepared meals for the Emmanuel Dining Room.

Mr. Zehner is pre-deceased by his first wife of 35 years, Ethel, who died in 1977 and his second wife of 29 years, Anne G, who died in 2007. He is survived by his sons, William Jr.(Susan), of Spokane, WA, Robert(Carol Ann Grant), of Wilmington, DE and daughter, Elaine Witkoskie(James), of Ocean City, NJ, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a step-son, C. John Louth and two step-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 PM on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, where friends and family may visit the family beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the mass at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of Delaware, 100 W.10th Street, Suite 209, Wilmington, DE 19801.
