Kent A. Mitchell, age 84, of Hagerstown, Md died January 10, 2021 in Hyattsville, MD.

Born October 10, 1936, he was the son of the late Lyle S. and Mary Heefner Mitchell. He graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1954, Hagerstown Junior College in 1960, and attended Shepherd College and Florida Southern College. Kent was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had been employed by the U.S. Government and Fairchild Aircraft. From 1985-1988, he served as vice chairman of the Washington County Regional Airport Commission. He was a member of Fountain Head Country Club, Hagerstown Lodge 378 B.P.O. Elks, Morris Frock Post No. 42 American Legion, North American Rod and Gun Club, Hagerstown Company and Antietam Fire Company No. 2. He was also a member of the American Aviation Historical Society, a life member of Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, a life member of Missile, Space and Range Pioneers, a life member of National Rifle Association, and a life member of American Radio Relay League.

He was active in aviation as a pilot and was an amateur radio operator-call sign W3WTO. He was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, OX5 Aviation Pioneers, the Silver Wings fraternity, and the Quarter Century Wireless Association, and a founding member of the National Corvette Museum and the Hagerstown Aviation Museum. Kent was an internationally know aviation historian and award-winning author of over 80 aviation magazine articles and a book, Fairchild Aircraft 1926-1987.

He is the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by cousins. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Hagerstown Aviation Museum, 18450 Showalter Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742. Internment will take place at Rest Haven Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at the Hagerstown Aviation Museum at a future date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A.
