Edward Williams Yoder, 84, of Greensburg, PA, died Monday, August 3, 2015 at his home.

He was born June 9, 1931 in Hazleton, the eldest son of the late Edward and Beatrice Yoder.

Mr. Yoder graduated from Muhlenberg Township High School in Laureldale, Class of 1949.

He was a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean War and served on board the submarine, USS Burrfish, SSR312.

After leaving the Navy, he entered Temple University, and graduated in 1955, and married Carolyn A. Hill that same year, and also began employment at Westinghouse Electric Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1988, during which time he obtained a degree from Jacksonville (FL) University in 1960, and graduated from the University of Baltimore as a Juris Doctor in Law and was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1967.

Edward also was a life member of VFW Post 33 Greensburg, a member of the American Legion Post 981 South Greensburg, and a life member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans Association, the American Radio Relay League, and the Quarter Century Wireless Association as a Ham Radio Operator with the call of W3YMB.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ann Yoder; two sons, Andrew David Yoder and wife, Michelle, of Washington Twp.; and John Edward Yoder and wife, Kimberly, of Level Green; a daughter, Karen Anne DeSantis and husband, Richard, of Bell Twp.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas L. Yoder of Edgefield, SC and F. David Yoder of W. Palm Beach, FL; and a sister, Margaret Ann Yoder of Drehersburg, PA.

Family and friends will be received from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Thursday, at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. Interment with full military honors accorded by the VFW 33 Post Honor Guard will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.


Attorney at Law, formally held FCC 1st Class Radiotelephone License with Ship Radar Endorsement (since discontinued by the FCC). Was President of Murrysville, PA city council, President of Westmoreland County, PA Boroughs Association, Business Manager of Westinghouse Iranian Defense Operations, President of Royal Vista Condominium Association in Flordia, Member of the Board of Directors of the Lakeridge Home Owners Association. Formal education includes degrees in Associate in Technology from Temple University, Associate in Arts from Jacksonville, FL University and Juris Doctor from University of Baltimore.

Currently a life member of QCWA, Sigma Delta Kappa Law Fraternity, ARRL, US Submarine Veterans Association (also serving as their National Parliamentarian) and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Also a member of the OOTC, US Navy Radioman Association, US Submarine Veterans Amateur Radio Association, Rag Chewers' Club and Royal Order of the Wouff Hong. Previous ham radio calls were W4GAV (Jacksonville), W3YMB/6Y5 (Kingston) and EP2EY (Tehran).

Amateur Radio awards include DXCC, CQDX, WAC, WAS, WAZ and ITU Diplome des 100.
