James M. Homan, Jr., 83, of Clearwater, passed away in Morton Plant Hospital on July 4, 2010. Jim was born in Reading, PA on June 17, 1927.

His eyesight was leaving him, his kidney was failing. Life was one trial after another for the last 30 years. He is at peace now.

Jim was a career U.S. Air Force SMSGT retiring to Clearwater in October, 1965, where he was employed as a stockbroker with Thompson McKinnon. Jim was a member of Good Samaritan Episcopal Church. His past associations include the Clearwater Exchange Club, Clearwater Lodge No. 127 F&AM and a lifetime member of the Clearwater Amateur Radio Club (CARS). His call sign was W4DPH.

Jim served several terms as the CARS treasurer, and was trustee for the 146.97 repeater for several years. He built the existing CARS 224.94 repeater.

He was the owner of the AGL Electronics Ham store on Drew St, which he sold to AES in 1981. He was a pioneer in Packet Radio in this area, and maintained a Packet BBS system in his home.

He will be missed, and never forgotten for his contributions to the Clearwater area Amateur Radio community.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen of 64 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Glenn Griffith of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Jean Homan of Belleair; son and daughter-in-law, James and Lynne Homan, Palm Harbor, and grandchildren, Heather Griffith, Brett Griffith, Stephanie Shealey and Ryan Homan.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010, 11 am at the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to his church or to a charity of your choice.
