Reed, Mr. Slaughter Brandon, of Birmingham, died November 17, 2001. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He was a charter member of Eastlake Church of God and a current member of Sherwood Church of God. He worked for US Steel for 38 years as a machinist. He operated an amateur radio station W4DXB for over 55 years. He began writing music in 1968 and had published over 130 songs in gospel music. He is listed in the Alabama Archives of Gospel Music as one of Alabama's noted Gospel writers and is in the Alabama Archives Music Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Martha J. Reed; sons, Thomas J. Reed of Florida and George B. Reed of Pell City; daughters, Mary V. Sisson of Leeds, Sherry Bolt of Blountsville, Sue Pinyan of Birmingham, Kay Brown of Birmingham; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be Tuesday November 20, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Sherwood Church of God. Burial is at Forest Crest Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Roebuck Chapel. Roebuck Chapel directing.


Genealogy: Eldest of three son's born to Thomas B. and Cora E. Reed in Gadsden, Alabama, moved to Birmingham with his parents in 1910. He married his first wife, Edna Walker who died of leukemia on Feb. 05, 1940. He then married Martha Jane Walker on July 28, 1940.

He died peacefully in his sleep at Baptist Montclair Hospital in Birmingham.
