Obituary

Charles (Charlie) Evans, 85, died at his home on Sunday evening, August 23, after a long illness. He was born in Chattanooga on September 11, 1929.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C Evans and Minnie Lee Evans, his sisters, Minnie Lee West and Mary Lou Tapp, and his brother, Robert C. Evans.

Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of forty two years, Shirley Guth Evans, his daughter, Carol, his sons, Charles (Joni) Evans and Bill Evans of Atlanta, his stepdaughters, Christine (Chris) Gardner of Outer Banks, NC, and Dee Deakins Sawyer of Lexington, KY, grandchildren, Houston Evans of Springfield, Tn , Will Evans of Chattanooga and Alex Gardner and Harrison Gardner of Outer Banks, NC.

Mr. Evans retired after more than 30 years at Sherman and Reilly Inc., as Vice President/Product Specialist.

Charlie was an Air Force veteran. His hobbies were boating, camping, flying and building model airplanes, and an enthusiast of Amateur Radio. He earned many awards and was a well-known member of the Ham Radio community. His call sign . W4EO- was recognized worldwide as he obtained tthe Top of the DXCC Honor Roll, one of the ultimate accomplishments in Ham Radio. He was a member of the ARRL, Chattanooga Half Century Club, and a former member of the Chattanooga Radio Control Model Airplane group. He was of the Methodist faith.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 25 from 5-7 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel. Graveside services for Charlie will be at 11am, Wednesday, August 26 , 2015 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens on Highway 153 , Hixson, Tn.
