Mr. Hugh Thomas Anderson, 77, husband of Frances DeShields Anderson, of 110 Beaufort St., died July 2, 2001. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Ida Elrod Anderson.

Mr. Anderson graduated from Greenville High School in 1941, and attended Clemson College from 1941 until 1943. From 1943 until 1946 he served in the Army Air Corps, having served in the European Theater of Operations from 1944-45.

He retired from AT&T. He was licensed as an amateur radio operator (W4FNS) in 1938, and was a charter member and former president of Blue Ridge Amateur Radio Society (formerly Greenville Amateur Radio Club).He was a member of The Elks Lodge, The Greenville Shrine Club, The Greenville City Club and The Commerce Club. He was a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America and a longtime member of Overbrook Baptist Church. He was also a Mason and a Shriner.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Elizabeth M. Anderson, of Greenville; a son and daughter-in-law, H. Thomas and Kimberly B. Anderson Jr., of Lexington; and a sister, Edna Anderson Looper, of Greenville.

Services will be held today at 2pm at The Mackey Mortuary, with Dr. Kenneth Lance officiating. Entombment will be at C.M. Gaffney Mausoleum. The family will receive friends today from 1-2pm at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to Hospice of St. Francis Hospital, 414-A Pettigru St, Greenville, SC.
