I have been licensed since 1960 and enjoy primarily DX and contesting. I held the call K4UVT for 43 years, until July 2003, when I received the new call W4RQ.

I am a member of the Northern California DX Club and PVRC, the Potomac Valley Radio Club and a former member of the Northern California Contest Club (NCCC).

I hold the DX calls ZF2RF, 8P9AJ, FO0DRD and have also operated as KH6/K4UVT. I have all the logs for these operations on the computer and will be happy to confirm your QSO with those calls.

My first venture to Barbados was in 1985 and 1986 to participate in the CW Worldwide CW DX Contest. I worked with the late Phil Frazer, K6ZM, in those contests. Both years we were able to manage a little over 2,000,000 points -- not enough to win the world, but we sure had a lot of fun doing it! Outside of of the contests, I did a lot of casual operating on 40 and 80 CW in the evenings. "Casual" meant calling CQ about 8:00 PM and then not being able to clear out the pileup until around 4:00 AM !! My QSL card for Barbados above was taken just down the beach from our hotel. We stayed at Payne's Bay in St. James, on the western coast of the island. The hotel is just behind the person standing on the beach at water's edge.

Back in 1993, Bob, K6ZZ (ex-W9NQ) was planning a trip to the Cayman Islands for the CQ WW SSB DX Contest. I was invited to go along for that effort. Unfortunately, I was in the process of moving at that time and was unable to go. But I did make it there in 1994 to join Bruce, W6OSP and Joe, W6VNR for the CQ WW CW contest and have been going back every year since! I always go there around Thanksgiving to do the CQ WW CW contest. Much of our time is taken up by the contest, but we also get to do some casual operating when we're not enjoying all the other activities the islands have to offer.
