First Call: W5EGS in 1961

Roger Doyle Hoestenbach, Sr., known by many as Grandad, passed away peacefully in the arms of loved ones on March 8, 2021, just two weeks shy of his 91st birthday.

Roger was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on March 21, 1931 to his loving parents, John and Ethel Hoestenbach. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his wife Laverne H. Hoestenbach, two beautiful daughters, Debbie and Vicki.

Grandad was a foundation in his family and was deeply loved by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was always ready for any celebration, activities, after-school pizza, and dance-off. His light always shined brighter when surrounded by those he loved.

Roger accumulated a lifetime of achievements and memories during his time on this earth. He stated in a letter to his granddaughter that he completed everything on his Bucket List, with no regrets. He was a proud Eagle Scout, West Point Graduate, Engineer, avid pilot, and Ham Radio Operator and Collector. He loved to learn and was always challenging his mind. He continued to consult on engineering projects decades beyond retirement.

A Celebration of Life in his honor will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2021 at the West Houston Airport, 18000 Groeschke Road, Houston, Texas 77084 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
