Ruric Dalton Mason died on Saturday, August 18, 2018. Ruric was born on July 7, 1919 in Hopkinsville, KY to Ruric O'Brien and Etta Riley Mason.

He graduated from Hopkinsville High School in 1937. He joined the Army and served in the Signal Division of the US Army Air Corps. After leaving the service, he attended the University of New Mexico, graduating from the College of Pharmacy in 1950. He then moved to Santa Fe and began his career in Pharmacy on February 1, 1950, working for Harry Hunton. On June 1, 1959 he opened Mason's Pharmacy and operated this store for 15 years.

When the fun ran out, he sold the store and spent the remaining years of his career doing relief work. He retired from Pharmacy on July 7, 2010, his 91st birthday.

Among the various organizations to which he belonged were Beta Xi Chapter of Sigma Chi, Kappa Psi (pharmacy fraternity), Montezuma Chapter #1 AF&AM, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Past Patron of Harvest Chapter O.E.S. and White Shrine.

Ruric was an Amateur Radio Operator with the call of W5FHL. His handle was "Doc". He was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Etta Riley Mason Geer; her husband, Emmit F. Geer and their son, Otto Mason Geer; son-in-law, James Casey; step-daughter, Laura Diane Pryor and grandson, Colter Pryor. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Leslie Diane, son, Ruric O'Brien Mason II (Terry Odom); daughters, Robin Casey, Kathy Noltensmeyer (Skip), Shelley Moon (Bill); grandchildren, Jennifer Casey (Andria), Cara Noltensmeyer, Craig Noltensmeyer (Monica), Cory Moon; great-granddaughters, Kayla Fernandez (Anthony), Briana Lovato and Channer Noltensmeyer, great-grandson, Jack Noltensmeyer; niece, Juanita Schaffer (Geer) and nephew, Hunter Lee Geer (Harlene).

Ruric was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor.

A White Rose Ceremony and visitation will be held Thursday, August 23, 2018 at French-Westside at 12:30 p.m. A Rosary will be held Friday, August 24, 2018 at 8:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th St. Albuquerque, NM 87114, with interment to follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park in Rio Rancho.
