Watertown - Glenn R. Edland, age 81, of Watertown, S.D., passed away on Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown.

Funeral services will be Aug. 14, 2006, at the Wight, Comes and Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown with Chaplain Minoru Tsukamoto of the Jenkins Living Center officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown, S.D., with military honors conducted by the Frank H. Adams Post 750 of the VFW.

Visitation will be on Monday at the Wight, Comes and Sogn Funeral Chapel.Glenn Raymond Edland was born on May 1, 1925, at Cogswell, N.D., to Severin and Olga (Olson) Edland. He grew up in Arlington, S.D., and graduated from Arlington High School in 1943. He entered the Army Air Corps on Oct. 27, 1943, and served in the CBI Theatre in communications. After his discharge on June 4, 1946, Glenn moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where he met Colleen Coral Chandler. They were married on Sept. 12, 1948, in Sioux City.

On Aug. 11, 1950, Glenn was called back to active duty by the Air Force and served during the Korean War as a radio operator; he was discharged on Aug. 10, 1951. He returned to Sioux City and worked for Great Northern Railroad until 1962, when he and his family moved to California and he worked for the government in electronics and communications.He retired in 1982, and after Glenn and Colleen spent some years traveling between South Dakota, Washington, Oregon and California, they settled in Watertown in 1990. He enjoyed flying and amateur radio. He was known by his "ham" operator buddies as W6IVV. He was a life member of the VFW and American Legion, and also was a member of the Sons of Norway. He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Glenn Eric and Lee Wayne Edland.

He is survived by his wife, Colleen Edland of Watertown; his son, Reid Edland of Watertown; his nephews, Bernard (Carol) Hanse of Claremont, S.D., and Don (Jan) Seeley of Aurora, S.D.; his nieces, Delores Hanse and Ruth (Don) Van VeldHuizen of Aberdeen, and Mary Ann (Dick) Olsen of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Alan (Donna) Pauley of Oakville, Wash.; one grandson, Timothy Foushee of Red Bluff, Calif.; 15 grand nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Pam and Galen Cordell, and Cindie and Mike Witham of Watertown.
