She graduated from San Diego High School in 1945. She attended the teacher college, named San Diego Normal School (now SDSU). She was married to Robert Edward Dodero II on July 1, 1947. The reason they got married on that date, was that they won a contest on the Nationally Broadcast Radio Show, (The Bride and Groom Show). The wedding was broadcast on national radio with all expenses paid. They Honeymooned in Del Mar and were guests of Don Diego at the Del Mar Fair.

In the 1950's Barbara and Robert raced cars (MG's) in rallies at places such as Torrey Pines and Paradise Mesa. Both Barbara and Robert were licensed HAM Radio operators with Barbara's call sign being W6IBZ. The Dodero's raised three of their own children as well as two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Barbara dedicated herself to raising and teaching children most of her adult life. Barbara and Robert we very tolerant of their children having pets in the house so that their kids could learn about nature. For year's fish, birds, frogs, turtles, snakes and lizards were welcomed to the house and most of them actually stayed in their cages!

For twenty years, Barbara was an instructional aide for San Diego City Schools at Valencia Park Elementary School until she retired in 1991. While working at Valencia Park School, she mastered the first instructional computer the school ever had and helped teach students through the use of computers. She also used the Spanish she had learned in college for interpretation at the school and for just the pleasure of speaking the language to friends. Barbara was a caring and helpful person, often giving neighborhood kids rides to school. For many years she volunteered at St Rita's Church carefully writing names and other information into the Confirmation Book for the Church. She was a member of the St Rita's bible study group as well.

Barbara's husband Robert preceded her in death in 2001. She is survived by her two sons Robert and Mark, her daughter Teresa passed away in 2008. Barbara also has five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
