Donald was born on August 22, 1939 and passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Donald was a resident of Whittier, California at the time of his passing. Don was first licensed as KN9COX in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1957. He became W6KAT in 1968 after moving to California. His XYL, two daughters, and both sons in law, two grandsons and a nephew are also licensed hams. Don is active on 75 meters thru 440 MHz. He is the Trustee of a club repeater on the 222 MHz band. On HF he runs a Yaesu FT-1000MP MARK-V or an Icom IC-756 PRO II, into a Heathkit HL2200, or Henry 2KD linear. There is also a working Collins KWM-2 for backup. Antennas include a 137 foot long dipole at 50 feet, and a Tri-band beam, plus numerous VHF & UHF beams and verticles. Don has been a member of the ARRL since 1957 and is a member of the Los Angeles County Disaster Communications Services (RACES). He is a past Vice President of the 220 MHz Spectrum Management Association of Southern California and past President and current Vice President of the Rio Hondo Amateur Radio Club (RHARC) (W6GNS) in Whittier, CA. He is also past President and current Secretary of The Sunset Group ARC (K6TSG) of Upland, CA. Don is a retired Procurement Quality Engineer for Rockwell International, Collins Radio Division. Besides Ham Radio, Don enjoys family, golf and RV camping with Ham Radio friends.
