Chapter 14
First Call: W6KSE

Bill passed away a few months after celebrating his 100th birthday.

He was born in Prescott, Arizona and grew up following the railroad construction in Arizona and California.

After graduating from Arizona State with a degree in education, he began teaching shop and electronics classes in the Phoenix area. He would later complete his masters degree in education at Oregon State. While teaching he met Gertrude Hart.

Bill and Gertrude were married for 60 years and had two children, Linda and James. After moving to San Diego, Bill taught shop classes in the San Diego city school and was soon promoted to administrator.

One of Bill's many achievements was co-authoring a book entitled: Electricity and Electronics with his colleague Walter Ford. The book was used as the primary electronics textbook in schools for over 20 years. Later in his career he accepted a position with the San Diego Community College District.

Bill's life long hobby was short wave radio where he was always known by his call letters: W6KSE.

He was a Charger, Padre and Aztec fan. He loved building things and working around the house. He played golf with a treasured group of friends at the Little 9 course at Balboa Park well into his 90s.

He traveled extensively and loved pets. After Gertrude's passing Bill was lucky enough to spend his remaining years with Aina Summerfelt. Aina's cherished companionship and love extended beyond Bill to all of his family and grandchildren. She was a wonderful influence on Bill. Bill was close to and greatly admired by the Hart family.

He also had a special bond with the neighbors in and around Lucille Place. Bill is survived by his sister-in-law: Eugenia Kintzele; by Linda and James; by his daughters- in-law: Carole Carlisle and Lupe Correa; and by grandchildren: Alyson Carlisle-Steinberg, Samuel, Miranda, Daniel and Julia Steinberg.

Services will be on Monday, March 16, 2015 at noon at Greenwood Memorial Park.
