Born: September 08, 1926

Howard "Russ" Reece, age 92, passed away Monday evening, November 26, 2018. He was born September 8, 1926 in Muskegon to William and Mildred (Aurich) Reece.

Russ was a U.S. Navy Veteran RM 2nd Class of WWII and October 12, 1946, married the love of his life, Virginia Ensign in Muskegon. He received his bachelor's degree in physical education from Western Michigan University and later his master's in education from Eastern University.

Russ then went on to teach at Pennfield High School near Battle Creek, Reeths-Puffer High School, Ecorse High School in Ecorse, MI, Muskegon High School and finally served as principal at Orchard View Elementary for 16 years prior to his retirement.

Following retirement, he owned and operated H.R. Electronics, serving the Ham Radio community.

He attended Mears United Methodist Church and Crestwood United Methodist Church.

Russ was a HAM radio enthusiast and was known by the call sign: W8BXS. He was past president of QCWA (Quarter Century Wireless Association) Chapter 74 and a member of the American Radio Council.

Russ also enjoyed riding around on his John Deere tractor, traveling the U.S., Europe and Brazil, and watching sports.

SURVIVORS include his wife, Virginia; 3 children: Guy (Rhonda) Reece of Whitehall, Sue (Chuck) Lund of Ludington, Allen Reece of Grand Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Carolyn) Reece of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his one-day old son, Rory Grant Reece, and a brother, Richard Reece.

SERVICES for Russ will be held 2:30 PM Friday, November 30, 2018 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100.

VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
