Robert J. Ropes Kokomo, IN QCWA # 8437 |
Robert J. Ropes, 92, Kokomo, passed away at 9:00 pm on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo. He was born on February 25, 1923, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of John and Kathryn (Schneider) Ropes. On August 8, 1944, he married Betty Rose Wright, and she preceded him in death in August of 1998.
Robert was a 1941 graduate of Kokomo High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Naval Aviator. Robert was a plant 8 superintendent at Delco Electronics where he worked from 1942-1983. He was a life member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He enjoyed operating his Ham Radio, along with owning and flying his own air plane. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Robert had a tremendous love for his family.
Robert is survived by his children, Dennis Ropes, Lafayette, Timothy Ropes, Kokomo, Joseph (Karen) Ropes, Bringhurst, and Kimberly (Greg) Mavrick, Kokomo; grandchildren, Brian (Bobbi Jean) Ropes, Lyndsi (Eric) Bellaw, Ryan (Talia) Ropes, Amy (Austin) Lovelace, Justin (Johanna) Moos, Meghan (Tim) Coomler, Stacey Ropes, Blake Ropes, and Hannah (Tyler) Sparks, Abby Ropes, along with 10 great grandchildren.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty Rose Ropes, and son, Robert Wright Ropes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 North Washington Street, Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Michael McKinley officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am until service time at the church.
