Paul Swearingen, 90, died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at home.

He was the beloved husband of Frances (Bearden) Swearingen for over 65 years. His two daughters were at his side when he passed.

Paul was born in 1924, in West Frankfort.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Corp. in 1943. He spent 35 years in the U.S. Air Force, and was a veteran of three wars and traveled the world. He was a prisoner of war in Romania in World War II, and served in Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1974 and moved back to Southern Illinois to care for his mother and mother-in-law.

He was an amateur radio enthusiast and was active in the Shawnee Ham Radio Club and the AARL. He had many close friends involved in Ham radio and they met every week. Mr. Swearingen had been a very active member of the Benton Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Frances, and is survived by his daughters, Lee Swearingen and Jan Swearingen, as well as many dear friends and family members, including his beloved family, Dave and Laurel Bearden of Christopher and Dennis and Dawn Gunter of Christopher.

Mr. Swearingen requested no funeral or services but his daughters hope to have a gathering of friends at home in the near future.
