Tremont -- Donald D. Reid, 92, of Tremont, passed away at 5:49 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Albion, Ill., to Fred M. and Edythe B. Reid.

Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Eva Reid of Tremont; two sons; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack.

Donald worked at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria for 44 years, retiring in January 1985.

During World War II, he served with the 5th Armored Division in the European Theater of Operation (ETO) and participated in five campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

He was a member of Mackinaw Christian Church in Mackinaw.

He enjoyed his hobby of Ham Radio, call sign W9RWD.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Davis Mortuary in Tremont. The Rev. David Jassman will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davis Mortuary in Tremont and one hour before the service at the mortuary.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont with full military honors performed by the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
