He was born Dec. 3, 1916, to Daniel and Helen (Hendricksen) Olson in Tioga, N.D. He completed elementary and high school education in Des Lacs, N.D., and attended Minot State Teachers College.

Gene served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He and Elizabeth married June 20, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio. After his military service they lived in Bismarck, N.D., and he was employed at Gambles. Two years later the family moved to Bozeman, where he worked as a car salesman, then in 1990 they moved to the Helena area.

Gene was a ham radio operator (WA7CAC), and enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling, his computer and especially meeting people. He was a member of the Gallatin Masonic Lodge #6 A.F.&A.M., and of the Covenant United Methodist Church in Helena. Gene was active in the Bozeman Ham radio club, loved dancing and belonged to two dancing clubs in Bozeman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alvin, sister Elaine and son Jerry.

Gene is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of Helena; son Bruce Olson of Bozeman; daughter Janice Olson of Phoenix; and granddaughter Sarah Olson.
