First Call: WN8PLR in 1965

Patrick Thomas McGuire, age 71, peacefully passed away on January 24th, 2021. Patrick was born in Pontiac, Michigan on November 17th, 1949. He loved flying small airplanes and was a former member of the Texas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. Pat was a lifelong amateur radio enthusiast and in the early 1990s he combined both passions and invented an inexpensive system that could transmit live color video and GPS over shortwave radio from an airplane to people on the ground. This innovative technology was used for several years by officials in Texas and neighboring states to gather real time information about the extent of river flooding and hurricane damage. He had many innovative ideas and held many patents. He loved traveling, going to potlucks with friends and was also a voracious reader. He was deeply intelligent and endlessly curious. Pat worked for large construction companies in the Austin area and played an integral role in the permitting and construction of numerous local residential developments. Patrick is preceded in death by his father Thomas P. McGuire, his mother, Elsa D. Hansen, his sister Catherine C. McGuire and former spouse Angie Walker McGuire. He is survived by his wife Rebecca Ramsey McGuire of Georgetown, TX, former spouse, Shara Thome, Austin, TX, his Daughter Ayn E. McGuire of San Francisco, CA, son Gibson W. McGuire of Austin, TX, brothers Bruce L. McGuire (Wilmington, NC), Daniel R. McGuire (New Franklin, OH), Thomas K. McGuire (N. Canton, OH), and many nieces and nephews. Due to the virus, the interment will be private. The family is planning a memorial service in the future once it is safe to travel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to Conscious Harmony Church in Austin, TX. Condolences to the family may be offered online at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, TX. You may share a message or memory on our online guestbook at www.RamseyFuneral.com
