John L. Schenker, 86, of 123 Angela Lane, formerly of Kenneth Avenue, died the night of Dec. 26, 2008, in Jameson Hospital.Born Jan. 19, 1922, in New Castle, he was a son of the late John and Ida Lecomte Schenker.He married the former Anna Mary Wojnar on June 12, 1948. Mr. Schenker worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years. Prior to that, he was a warehouse man at the former Shenango China for 10 years. He was a graduate of New Castle High School.Mr. Schenker served in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division during World War II in the European Theater as a private first class. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Lawrence County Amateur Radio Assaction, N.A.R.F. and A.P.W.U. Mr. Schenker was an avid bowler, hunter and fisherman.He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.In addition to his wife, survivors include a sister, Irene Pajak of Mayfield Heights, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Schenker. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 S. Mill St. A service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The Rev. Erine Smith of the church will officiate.Entombment will take place in Castle View Gardens Mausoleum following the church service.
