THANKSTO MY "ELMER", W1RAN. HE DID IT ALL, WITHOUT THE INTERNET, AND WAS THERE FOR ME! THANKS NED!!!!
DXCC, WAS, UNBELIEVABLE OPERATING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD #2641, ARES, RACES, QCWA. ARL & W5YI VE.
AS OF March, 2014: 260 COUNTRIES WORKED, 182 VERIFIED.
In the early '50s, In Denver, television came in and our Zenith table model radio was moved to my room. A wooden cabinet, big tubes in back and a dial with 4 bands. I was able to pick up police broadcasts just above the broadcast band, no 2 way yet! I explored the other bands and heard my first "ham" transmissions. My father bought me a crystal radio kit and helped me build it. I listened to KOA. I got my 2nd Class FCC Radiotelephone license in 1963, while in the Navy. My Novice License in 1966 with the help of W1RAN. I was WN1HOH. A 1 year license only then. CW on 80 & 40m. Became WA1HOH in'64. and General, then Advanced Class. Extra Class came in '78, passing a code test and written, at the Boston FCC Office. Incentive licensing had just begun and at first I didn't recognize AD1N as a call sign. I am a former DEC/ RACES Radio Officer for Navajo County, AZ.
