William Keller Dunbar, 87, Bloomington, passed away at 11:49 a.m. Monday (Nov. 5, 2012) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington. He was born March 11, 1925 in Normal, a son of William Percy and Roxa Keller Dunbar. In April 1947, he married Mary Elizabeth Sheppard in Flat River, Mo. She died of polio on Nov. 7, 1949. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter "Bud" Dunbar. He married Blanche L. Bean on Feb. 3, 1951 in Decatur. She survives.Also surviving are a son, Earl (Sheryl) Dunbar; two daughters, Charlotte "Vicki" (fiance, Bill Walsh) Bye and Brenda (Mark) Butcher; eight grandchildren, Ewan Dunbar, Emily Dunbar, Suzanne (Chris) Kohlbrecher, Cynthia (Dr. Aaron) Erndt, Dr. Ben (Marsha) Butcher, Jonathan Butcher, Lincoln, Matthew (Marissa) Butcher and Bonnie Butcher; five great-grandchildren, Sophia Marie and Samuel Elliott Erndt, Cody William and Kari Ruth Kohlbrecher and Natalie Grace Butcher; many nieces and nephews, including Roxa Baize, Towanda and Harold Dunbar, Hudson. He was a radio operator in the artillery during World War II, serving in Normandy, northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge. |
