Chapter 194

I was first licensed in 1957 as KN6ZBZ while in Rohnerville, CA. (now incorporated into Fortuna, CA) The call later became K6ZBZ. We moved to Petaluma, CA in 1958 and I graduated from Petaluma Senior. High School in 1960. After four years in the USAF from 1960 to 1964 I moved to Honolulu.

My call became KH6FNB. I graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1969. During those years, I helped put up the original Diamond Head repeater (and several others) and was active on Army Mars running phone patches to Viet Nam.

I changed my call to AH6J when the one letter calls became available. In the past I have held a First Phone and Second Telegraph license. The phone license was converted to a lifetime issue general phone and the Telegraph license expired and was not renewed.

We moved to Keaau, HI in 1969/70 and I spent 29 years working for Hawaii Electric Light Co. I retired in January of 2001 as the Foreman of the Electronic Shop. I have held many offices in different radio clubs. I occasionally teach and substitute at Hawaii Community College in Hilo, HI.

My wife, Esther, see picture, and I were married on January 28, 1967 in Honolulu. I have a son Mike (Former NH6SQ) and a daughter Karen. Both of them live in Colorado.

On April 1, 2012 I started my seventh term as Pacific Section Manager. The Pacific Section website is: Since today is April 1, 2013, I have one more year to go in this term as SM.
