Dr. Med. Leopold Pomp, DL3DD - silent key

We have to say goodbye to a legend of Amateur radio, because last weekend our Leo fell asleep peacefully at the age of 93.

Even as a child, Leo was interested in the old one Tube technology and tinkered with the material it back then in our city to buy. He was only 16 Years old when he joined the then Local group Möengladbach of the German AmateurSendeDienstes (DASD).

Soon followed the years of World War II, which he called young soldier and radio specialist in various Countries of the theater of war. Leo came back home unharmed and occupied himself back to his radio hobby as soon as possible.

This was followed by the study of medicine and after some Dr. Pomp as a specialist in psychiatry in Möengladbach down. He wrote on amateur radio numerous publications and among his many Traveling the world was the radio and the Morse key always with you.

As far back as I can tell, assure me also some older OM of our OV, Leo never dealt with radiotelephony. He was a man of Morse code and he stayed that way until the end of his life.

His countless top-level diplomas and an incredible number of QSL cards from all over the world have already served me as Admiring adolescents in the early 1980s. This material was added to the not long ago Documentation archive handed over.

Unfortunately, Leo was not granted one thing. He was and always was a county hunter and in the end he was no longer missing than can be counted on your fingers. The OM in the United States, who kept him up to speed if an almost uninhabited US County should be activated again, you will miss it.

After many a private evening with red wine and cheese, I suddenly became very aware of one thing. I as well will miss him because Leo was a very valued person, a fatherly friend and advisor to me.

I'm certainly not the only one who feels this way.

Goodbye
Leo!
