Marshall B. Turner, 81, died May 1, 2009 in Selmer, Tenn., after suffering a brain aneurysm on April 26.
Services were May 6 at the First Presbyterian Church in Selmer. He was cremated and buried next to his mother on June 19 in the Blair Cemetery.
Marshall Burton Turner was born Jan. 10, 1928. His parents were Stu and Dorothy Mayer of Blair. He grew up in Blair, and graduated from Blair High School in 1946.
He had a varied career, ranging from that of police officer to retiring after 22 years from the Federal Aviation Association. He took a medical retirement due to a heart condition, but continued to work owning his own computer business where he sold, installed and repaired computers. He was a pilot, and in his younger years, owned a number of airplanes.
He settled in Holiday Island, Ark. After retiring, he became involved in politics, and was a member of the Coram Court, and was serving in his third, three-year term when he resigned to move to Tennessee with his new wife.
He married Georgia Curlin of Selmer, Tenn., on March 6, 2007. The couple made their home in Selmer.
Mr. Turner served as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Selmer and the couple was active in the church.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Larry Stevenson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jennie of Mesa, Ariz.; stepdaughter, Barbara Brigman of Jackson, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; seven step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Tommy Curlin.
I am now living and operating from my home in Selmer, TN. I remarried following the death of my wife, Norma, NØNQQ and moved down here. I am active on 75 on Mondays and Friday mornings at around 7:00 on 3859. Some 2 meter activity on the Ramer machine, 146.70 and the Selmer machine on 146.805 from time to time.
