Hastings Funeral Home in Perry is in charge of arrangements for Robert Sanford McCaffrey âBobâ, 77, of Boone. Bob died September 2, 2019 at his home in Boone. Visitation will be held after 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Hastings Funeral Home with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the funeral home.
Robert Sanford McCaffrey was born December 15, 1941 at Platteville, Wisconsin and died September 2, 2019 at his home in Boone, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 8 months, 18 days.
Bob's funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019, Hastings Funeral Home, Perry, Iowa. Rev. Paul Burrow, First United Methodist Church, Perry, Iowa, presiding at the service with Lennie Thompson ~ NÃLCT. The honorary casket bearer was Staff Sergeant Dalton Anderson, his casket bearers were Alex Brownlee, Adam Brownlee, Zachary Zysset, J.W. Toole, Joe Reynolds and Tyler Hulsey. Elta Summerson played piano and Brenda Roberts sang The Lordss Prayer and Memories recorded music Daddy's Hands and You'll Be In My Heart. Bob was buried a Valley View Cemetery, Perry, Iowa. Refreshments and fellowship in the Hastings Funeral Home Lounge following the services at the cemetery.
His parents were Esther Marie Simonson and Robert Paul McCaffrey. He had an older sister Catherine Anne who preceded him in death.
At a young age, the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Bob attended the Des Moines schools and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1960. Following High School, he entered the Drake University School of Pharmacology, graduating in 1965.
Bob married Patricia Dennis 1960 and of that union two daughters were born: Cynthia Anne and Kristine Lee. They later divorced. Bob married Jane Ann on September 12, 1975. He then became a father to Todd and Janan.
During college he was employed at Reppert Pharmacy and eventually purchased the business and ran it until 1987.
Upon leaving Des Moines and moving to Boone, Iowa he became employed at Boone County Hospital as Director of Pharmacy until 1999. Upon leaving BCH he took a position of Director of Pharmacy at the Page Hospital in Page, Arizona. He finished out his career in Page and retired in 2010.
He and wife Jane returned to Boone, Iowa to live and to be with their families. Bob is survived by his wife Jane (Zoey) of Boone, Iowa. Their four children are: Todd Anderson (wife Kathy) of Sheldahl, Iowa; Cynthia Fugate of Kenyon, Minnesota; Kristine Hansen (husband Sam) of North Platte, Nebraska and Janan Rowland of Osceola, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Ashleigh (Ryan) Wempe of San Antonio, Texas; Lauren (Sam) Johnson of Rochester, Minnesota; Alexandra Fugate of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Zachary (Shayna) Zysset of Hastings, Nebraska; Tessa (J.W) Toole of North Platte, Nebraska; Chelsea (Joe) of Kearney, Nebraska; Staff Sergeant Dalton Anderson, USFA Overseas; Katelyn Jane (Tyler) Brownlee of Osceola, Iowa; Alex Brownlee (Ashley) of Berwick, Iowa and Adam Brownlee of Osceola, Iowa; twelve and a half great-grandchildren: Sapphire, Grayson, Berklee, Ryker, Corbin and ? due 11-8, Tatum, Chance, Destinee, Hope, Payzlie, Keely, Addison and Sophia; other relatives and many friends.

ARLX009 Past ARRL Iowa Section Manager Bob McCaffrey, KØCY (SK)
Former ARRL Iowa Section Manager Bob McCaffrey, KØCY, of Boone, Iowa, died on September 2. An ARRL Life Member, he was 77.
McCaffrey served twice as Iowa Section Manager - first, from 1980 until 1986, and again from 2013 until 2019, after he declined to run for another term. He served in other Iowa ARRL Field Organization positions as well.
McCaffrey was licensed in 1955 as KNØEJZ. He taught entry-level Amateur Radio classes within adult education and served as a Volunteer Examiner. He was an AMSAT and Quarter Century Wireless Association member and an enthusiastic ARRL Field Day participant. He was a past president of the Des Moines Radio Amateur Association and of the Boone Amateur Radio Club.

I was first licensed in the fall of 1955 as KNØEJZ,/KØEJZ a call I held until passing my Amateur Extra Class ticket and assigned KØCY. I have been active for most of this time except for the time I attended Drake University, in pursuit of a pharmacy degree,
I am currently serving as Section Manager for Iowa and previously I have served as EC, DEC, Section Communication Manager and Section Manager for Iowa. I was active with AMSAT during the OSCAR VIII era. I am a Life member of the ARRL, AMSAT, a member of QCWA (Ch 123) and Fists (#7047), and the 3900 Club.
I have taught several Ham Radio entry level classes within Adult Education and have served as VE, since it's inception with both ARRL and W5YI.I assisted setting up an emergency Amateur station for the Banner Hospital System in AZ, during my time in Page AZ.
I enjoy all facets of the hobby, including DXing, APRS, NTS, Ragchewing done primarily on CW. I even attempt kit building.
Since I am retired I find that I have more time to spend in ham radio and enjoy it every much.
I attempt to QSL 100%, direct or through the bureau., LOTW, QSL collecting is very rewarding.
My current equipment consists of A Knwd TS2000, Knwd TS 590SG, Knwd TS 570D, Knwd TS480, TS830S, HW 8,using a G5RV, OCFD and 80M Dipoles along with a Hygain Patriot Vertical.
