Hunt, Richard Field - age 96 a long time resident of St Paul and business owner died on April 11 at home. He is survived by his wife, Ruby, with whom he shared a loving marriage of 60 years, three daughters and three grandchildren. The daughters Lynn (parter Margaret Jacob) of Los Angeles, CA; Lee (husband, David Knott) of Portland, OR; and Jane of St Paul. Grandchildren Lucien Jackey (wife, Brigitte Pernille Sondergaard), Clare Jacky and Aaron Knott.
Richard was born in Newtonville, MA, and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the US Naval Academy.
During the depression years he did actuarial work for an insurance company, worker as a reporter for the New Bedford Standard Times and served as a Third mate on a United Fruit Company banana boat. During WWII he worked in the electrical division of the US Army Corps of Engineers in the Panama Canal Zone where he met and married Ruby Miller, who also was working for the corps.
When the war ended, they returned to Ruby's hometown of St Paul, where in 1958 Richard founded Hunt Electrical Construction Company. He is a past president of the St Paul Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association and was the chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee for the construction of the St Paul Technical Vocational School, now the St Paul Technical College. At his retirement in 1983 , a scholarship fund for electrician apprentices was established in his name at the college.
From the age of thirteen and throughout his life, he pursued his hobby of amateur radio. He was certified with his first license in 1924 with the cal letters KØMG, signed by Herbert Hoover who was then Secretary of Commerce. Using his radio, he helped missionaries in many parts of the world to stay in touch with their headquarters and families. For many years h, he served as a volunteer at the Handi-Ham program at the Courage Center. Richard was a member of the St Paul Radio Club, the American Radio Relay League, the Quarter Century Wireless Association, and the International Missionary Radio Association.
He enjoyed golf and was president of the Mendakota Golf Club.
He was a long-time active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday April 14, 2005.
