West Plains - Larry G Wilson, formerly of Lee's Summit, passed away June 29th surrounded by siblings, children and grandchildren. He was born December 5th 1942.
He was raised in Springfield, the son of Glen and Evelyn Wilson. Glen was the Lieutenant for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop D, Evelyn in charge of raising their five children.
He graduated from Parkview High School, class of 61 and began his law enforcement career with the Springfield PD. Upon his dad's retirement and Larry graduating from the academy at the MSHP, class of 66, he began his career with the patrol, carrying his dad's badge number 238 and keeping it in the family for nearly 70 years.
He was one of the first motorcycle Troopers, he worked with K9s, reached the rank of Sergeant and finished as a detective for Troop A in Lee's Summit, MO. His last case involved working with the FBI and he received their Director's Award for his efforts. It is their highest award for a non-FBI member.
He retired from the Patrol after nearly 34 years and moved to West Plains, where he became active in the local ham radio club. He had been a member of the KC ham radio club and held his license since 1958 as well as continuing as a national net manager in emergency communications. He was a tournament bass fisherman and avidly pursued genealogy.
He leaves to mourn his wife Eileen Wilson and special daughter Molly Kate of the family home. Sons: Greg (Tina) Wilson, son Keaton of Lee's Summit, MO; Gabe Browning (Allyson) and daughters Aubrey Jo and Zoey Grace of Ozark MO; Bill Browning (Ka) son Theo and new baby due in October of Sparta, MO. Daughters: Tammy (Tim) Mott, sons Tim and twins Kenny and Kevin of Lees Summit, MO; Kelsi (Josh) Sword, daughter Evelynn of KCMO; Kristi (Nate) Holden & children Kayley, Connor & Brendan of KCMO; Shauna (Brandon) Coleman of Maryland. Brothers: Steve & Phyllis Wilson of Republic, MO; Gary & Vanessa Wilson of Coweta, OK; Sam & Brenda Wilson of Springfield, MO, and his beloved and cherished baby sister Cheryl Stumph of KC MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law Larry Stumph, and one son Michael O'Dell.
