Chapter 112

First Call: KN1DIK in 1957
Glendon Robert Whitehouse passed away peacefully after a long battle with brain cancer on September 5, 2019, at age 76. Glen is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sharon Whitehouse, his longtime partner in the adventure of life.
Glen was born in Unity, Maine on August 22, 1943 and was the son of Robert and Thelma Whitehouse. He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University, an MBA from Texas A&M, and was a proud Air Force veteran who served in Thailand during the Vietnam War.
After retiring as president of Cushcraft/Signals, an antenna manufacturer in New Hampshire, Glen and Sharon embraced 'retirement' with gusto. Glen was a tireless volunteer in the community. He started their church's 'Great Day of Service' coordinating projects for the needy, delivered Meals on Wheels, took the family to work shifts at the food bank, and consulted with small businesses for SCORE 'the Corps of Retired Executives' He also started an e-commerce website selling weather instruments. Glen was a lifelong ham radio operator with call sign K1GW, earning a prestigious award for global communications this past May, and was a giant fan of the Red Sox (2018 world champs!). All between rounds of golf and bridge.
Glen was our fearless leader: always adventurous, always up for something new, an eternal optimist with a wicked, dry humor that kept us laughing. We will miss him every day.
Glen is survived by his wife, Sharon of Fuquay-Varina; daughters, Corrie Forsling (Scott) of Park City, Utah and Tracy McGuire (Gary) of Holly Springs; brother, Fred Whitehouse (Grace) of Venice, Florida; and grandchildren, Connor McGuire, Trevor McGuire, Kendall Kirklen, and Kasey Kirklen. And of course, his little buddy Tucker, a very comforting maltipoo.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Francis United Methodist Church, 2965 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary at 11:00 am on Monday, September 9, 2019. All are welcome to enjoy a harp prelude at 10:30am and lunch following the service.
