BELGRADE - Glenn Albert Baxter, 75, died May 5, 2017, at Maine General Medical Center, Augusta, after a strong, courageous battle with lymphoma cancer.
Glenn was born the son of Frank and Marion ("Sunny") Watson Baxter and grew up in Scarsdale, N.Y., having spent summers in Maine from the age of 9. He became a full-time Maine resident in 1977 and met Bonnie Richardson in April, 1979. They married one year later in April of 1980 and lived in Belgrade on Great Pond, that Glenn often referred to as his "paradise". He loved being on the water and was an expert at navigating his way around the waters of Great Pond in his two old wooden boats that he and Bonnie and their friends enjoyed for many years.
As a student at Northwestern University for two years, Glenn was a member of the football team and religiously followed their games each season cheering them on from afar! He later attended and graduated from the University of Rhode Island as an Industrial Engineer and proudly acquired his Registered Professional Engineering license (RPE) for Illinois and Maine.
In his earlier years he was an avid ham radio operator.
He was awarded "Distinguished Alumni" of Vermont Academy, where he attended high school, along with other such awards for his emergency relief efforts including a plaque of gratitude from the US Coast Guard.
Glenn also enjoyed listening and singing to all different genres of music. He even started an acapella group called "The Belgrade Lakes Loons" and most recently, was an active member of the "Kennebec Valley Chordsmen".
Glenn had always been fascinated with physics and recently headed a physics conference group.
Glenn will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Bonnie Baxter, of Belgrade, his two sisters Carol Taylor and her husband, Bob, of Pennsylvania, and Betty Sternad of Connecticut; as well as three nieces and two nephews and their families.
A celebration of Glenn's life will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Union Church in Belgrade Lakes.
