BROADALBIN - Richard W. Fountain, 65, of Broadalbin, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
He was born in Gloversville, the son of Catherine (Vanoss) Fountain and the late Robert E. Fountain.On Nov. 14, 1969, Richard married Patricia (Maxwell) Fountain. They shared 42 years united in marriage.
Richard worked for Verizon for 34 years as a service technician.
He was a ham radio operator for nearly 40 years, going by the call sign K1RST. He was an avid amateur photographer, Corvette enthusiast and a member of the Pinetree Rifle Club.
Richard attended the Adirondack Baptist Church. He spent many years volunteering for various churches in the region. Richard was a man of deep personal faith and anyone who knew or met Richard respected his iron-clad integrity.
In addition to his father, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Carole G. Fountain.He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia M. Fountain of Broadalbin; his mother, Catherine Fountain of Broadalbin; two sons, Robert C. Fountain of Broadalbin and Matthew A. Fountain of Mont Clair, Va.; and a granddaughter, Catherine M. Fountain.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at Adirondack Baptist Church, 1431 State Highway 29, Broadalbin, with the Rev. Brian Norman officiating. Interment will follow at Union Rural Cemetery in Mayfield. The arrangements have been entrusted to the Jeffords and Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin.
