George O. St. Andre, age 86, of Braintree, died peacefully Thursday, June 28, 2012 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Boston, raised and educated in Braintree schools and was a graduate of Braintree High School. He later graduated from the Capitol Radio Institute in Washington, DC. He had lived in Braintree for most of his life and was a longtime parishioner of Saint Thomas More Church. George was a veteran of World War II, having served as an Electronic Technicians Mate 2/c in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in Labrador. After the war, George began his career as an electrical engineer at the former WJDA radio station in Quincy. He then worked for WHDH radio in Boston and later became the Chief Engineer for WHDH-TV. He was a major force in engineering the startup of WHDH-TV and later WBZ-TV Channel 4s first live telecasts of Boston Red Sox games at Fenway Park and also spring training in Florida. He retired in 1991 after over forty- five years in the radio and television industry. George was a former Braintree Town Meeting member and was also a member of the Braintree Mens Club, the MA Audubon Society and the South Shore Camera Club. He enjoyed spending summers on Cape Cod and was a member of the Hyannis Yacht Club. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Beloved husband of the late Blanche L. (Tobey) St. Andre. Devoted father of William M. St. Andre and his wife Deborah of Braintree, John E. St. Andre of CT, Louise E. St. Andre of CA, Thomas D. St. Andre and his wife Saundra Winstead of VA, Barbara J. St. Andre of Canton, Elizabeth J. St. Andre and her husband Randal Jackson of CA, and James G. St. Andre of the UK. Loving grandfather of eight grandchildren; and one cherished great-granddaughter. Brother of Arthur St. Andre of FL and Guy St. Andre of Braintree. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Ave., Quincy, Monday, July 2 at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint Thomas More Church, corner of Hawthorne Rd. and Elm St., Braintree at 10 oclock.
