Melville E. Sherman, Jr., 89, of Liverpool passed away on Monday at Crouse Hospital.
He was born in Portland, ME where he was raised and educated.
He was a proud US Army Veteran serving in WW II.
Melville had lived in Boston and Oklahoma City before coming to the Syracuse area, residing in Liverpool since 1966.
He was employed with the FAA at Syracuse Hancock Airport as a Supervisory Electronics Technician retiring in 1979 after over 24 years of service.
Melville enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 188 in Liverpool and an avid hunter, enjoying the outdoors.
He is predeceased by his wife Shirley I. (Strout) Sherman in 2008 and his sister, Gertrude Smith.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his son, Craig M. Sherman (Donna Carleton) of Woodbridge, VA., daughter, Jane A. (Stan) Remaley of Virginia Beach, VA., six grandchildren; Stephen (Becky) Sherman, Kevin, Justin, Kaitlynn Sherman, and their mother, Jayne (Tim Lewandowski) Sherman, Arianna and Andrew Remaley, great-granddaughter, Elena Sherman, many nieces and nephews who knew him as "Uncle Bud" and his longtime companion, Eileen Corey of Phoenix, NY.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Inc., 300 Second St., Liverpool.
Funeral services and entombment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
